3 Ways to Cultivate a More Creative Life

3 Ways to Cultivate a More Creative Life

Consciously infusing moments of creativity into your every day is where the magic starts to happen.

For me, part of that process has been curating my spaces and routines to support myself in doing so.

But what do I mean by that?

A little background—

During the forced slow-down of the pandemic, I was getting a grasp on some unknown health issues that were causing me chronic pain. Not only did I need to dig deeper into my healing journey, there were practical changes to be made. I was overworking and spending too many hours looking at a screen, for example.

I wasn't taking enough time to be present, let alone to dream and curate the reality I want to live in.

Until the day I made the conscious decision to practice creativity & expression every single day.

Infusing creativity and self-expression into your daily life is more achievable than you might think. It’s in the way you decorate your space. It’s in creating a small routine that allows you to enjoy a few minutes of the day’s best light. It can simply be engaging your senses in new ways.

Small adjustments can lead to significant shifts.
Here are three ways I approach cultivating a more inspired and creative life.

1 Cultivate A Creative Mood

Every day holds the potential for creative sparks. A truly mundane moment can strike a fire of inspiration!!

From the way you start your morning to the way you unwind in the evening, there are countless chances to infuse creativity into your day-to-day.

Here are some ways I cultivate a creative mood effortlessly:
  • Create a morning routine that includes a moment for expression. I've experimented with stream-of-consciousness journaling, as well as more artistic collage journaling early in the day and learned I enjoy exploring my thoughts before they've been bombarded by the day. Additionally, setting into a creative headspace early on can help me to stay in flow throughout the day.
  • Incorporate scents into a routine to bring a touch of intention or delight. Make a habit of lighting incense before a meditation or stretching, or using essential oils as you connect with your breath before bed.
  • Change the lighting in your space to enhance creativity or match your mood. I have tons of lamps that allow me to play with different lighting depending on my activity or energy levels. Additionally, I'm a huge fan of wifi colored light bulbs—I set them to whatever mood I'm in! (Usually hot pink!?!)
I could make a longer list. ☻

2 Visualize Your Creative Self

I'm excited to share one of my favorite visualizations with you—a powerful exercise that connects you with your ‘Creative’ self on a deeper level.

Close your eyes, place your hand on your heart. Notice and connect with your breath.

Begin to imagine your most creative self. Visualize her surroundings.

• What does her room look like?
• What color does she paint her nails?
• What is she wearing?
• How does she spend her weekends?

Envision the details of her life as she lives in full creative flow.

Take notes or journal all the details you uncover.

Create a plan to incorporate at least one element into your life this week.

3 Keep Inspiration in Sight & Mind

You should know that I am SO big on creating new neural pathways, positive self-talk and thinking, creating your own reality through visualization, meditation—ALL THE LIFE-CHANGING THINGS.

I'm an extremely visual person. Aesthetics are important to me. And in many ways, I'm a visual learner.

So, I place physical, pretty & positive inspiration in my line of vision to aid in shifting my perspectives.

• Create the vision boards
• Print out your photos & inspiration
• Follow social media accounts that feel good & unfollow ones that don't
• Put positive affirmations on the mirror
• Set intentional phone and laptop wallpapers
• Write things down! Use pretty pens & stickers & all the things!
